How true is that comic! "Man" is never completely satisfied, even with all of the new technologies to make life easier. I guess that's why technology never dies.
Agreed, I think that technology can be as destructive to society as beneficial. If you look closely, the comic sums that up really well. We are never satisfied, always upgrading to newer technology and for what? I think people get way to wrapped up in what technology can do for us and often times are destructive to society in the process.
I agree, the comic is so true. We are never satisfied with what we have. I think it is more of a want than a need for fast, better ways to make our lives easier. We are rarely satisified with what we have. Technology can be destructive (the internet) depending on how you use it, but it has helped in the advancement of society and science (medicine). Great comic.
"Everything that can be invented has already been invented" - Charles H. Duell - 1899
He couldn't have been any more wrong. I think for that time with all the technological advances like photography, motion picture, gas powered engines, telephone... he thought there couldn't be anything more. With our society today we know that greater things are to come.
Love the comic! As a few of the other students have said, man will never be satisfied, no matter what. Take a look at the comic and look how simple life was, and take a look at all the crap we have today. Most of us would love to go back to the way it life used to be.
This comic is simple and so perfect. The caveman wanted to invent technology to better their lives when they had everything natural around them. Now that man has technology, sometimes we desire for the 'simple' life of nothing being restrained from our technology (or wanting more!)
Looking at this cartoon I think the fundamental different between Cave Man Carl and the more modern man is the environment. Look how the modern man is destroying his environment. I’ll be the first to say that I so sick of this “going green” crap. At this point, just blow it up already. But you would think we all the technology we have and all the technology in the process of being invented that we would have solved some of our environmental problems by now. Just look at our blogs, the inventions of the past we love the most are the ones that make our life most comfortable. I wonder when we are going to get to the point where caring for our environment will be a necessity. (But for now, bring on global warming because its cold out there!)
This comic is so very funny. We as a society can never get enough. No matter what the newest gadget is we must have it. We are never completely satisfied. Just when we think we have everything we could possible need, something else comes onto the market and now we must have that as well. What is one of the 7 deadly sins that begin with a “g” and ends in a “y” again????????
That comic is really a good description of mankind. We are never satisfied and I completely think that is a good thing. By improving on ourselves constantly, its only gonna make the world a better place for us as long as we're responsible.
Wow how true is that comic! No matter what a person has it almost seems as though it's not good enough....which brings us back to does technology evolve society or does society evolve technology.
I completely agree with this comic. It really describes us as human beings. Back in time cavemen weren’t happy with their simple lives and what they had. They wanted more. Society has evolved and so has technology and we still are not satisfied. We always want the next best thing and then when we get we still aren't satisfied. I don’t even know if we will ever be satisfied.
This is the absolute truth!! I know so many people who have so much stuff and they are still miserable. I guess it's true that money doesn't buy happiness, and because of the recession, the commercials are telling us to "go back to basics". Let's see how long that lasts.
Technology is not always positive. Sometimes, it can hurt the ones it is meant to help. Consider the television. A great way to have an entertaining evening, but as a result, obesity rates have raised. It is not a coincidence. Modern society is another example. We have running water, clean(er) streets, and better housing, but we had to destroy nature to do it as clearly shown in the comic. People are never satisfied. Consider that only several thousand years ago, all of us were hunter-gatherers with a low standard of living. Now, we have more leisure and things to use during that leisure than ever.
I love the picture! So funny and so true. Everyone now and days takes everyone takes everything for granted that we have. Back then, people had to make the best out of things that we would not even consider taking time to do. The picture is amazing though!
This illustration is so true in regards to our society. I don't feel like it's just men that are not happy, but everyone. No matter what people always say "why can't things be easier". I feel like people take things for granted and I'm guilty as charged too. You really don't start to appreciate things until you look into the past and see how far we've come.
That is such a great comic! It shows that we cannot be satisfied. That is a major reason as to why mankind presses on and explores so much, we cannot be satisfied.
I agree with many other, this is very true. People want what they do not have. At least this fact will ensure that technological advancement keeps flowing.
I love this comic! It represents everything our soceity is about these days. Everyone complains about everything! We act like the world is ending if we don't have service on our cell! Or we stay home from work when our car is not working-hello there are other ways of getting to work!
Honestly, I think that now more than ever technology can help mankind. The convergence of devices that is occurring will allow consumers have less devices that do MORE tasks. Take the iPhone for example. That one device in its minimalist box and packaging replaces the need to purchase a separate mp3 player, cell phone, and or PDA. All of those devices require different batteries, power adapters, and accessories, as well as an individual electrical current so they can be charged. The iPhone just requires any old Apple Dock connector cable that most people have (that is if you already own an iPod) and an open USB port on your computer, that is already on to begin with, and you can charge it with no additional power.
Furthermore, do not be surprised if the next generation of video game systems will also be usable as cable boxes and DVR's. The Xbox 360 has been shown off by ATT to be capable of running its IPTV service, actively making the device a game system, a DVD player, and a cable box all in one. Future systems will most likely have a CableCard or tru2way card slot that one can rent from their cable provider.
Ha! I like the comic. It portrays humans to the T. We as humans are never happy with what we have; we are always left with wanting more. We are always looking to improve upon things to make them better.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe on this one. When is enough enough? In some cases technology improves the convenience of life but not necessarily the quality of life
